Party with a Purpose

2023 Goal$30,000!

Each year our members donate their time, money, gently used and new clothes, toys and food!  We support the below charities and ask our members to recommend new ones.

As Good as Gold – Golden Retriever Rescue of Illinois is dedicated to the rescue, care and adoption of golden retrievers and golden mixes who are in need. In addition, As Good as Gold educates golden retriever guardians and the general public about the importance of spaying/neutering, positive training methods, diet and exercise, appropriate medical treatment and humane care.

Adopt-A-Highway – Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) is a community involvement program that brings citizen volunteers into partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation to keep our roadside clean.  The program also educates and encourages people to stop littering.  In addition, through the cleanup efforts, visitors and tourists have a better first impression of our state.   Our adopted stretch of highway is 22nd Street in Oak Brook, Illinois between Route 83/Kingery Highway and Butterfield Road.  We get together four times a year to make our highway beautiful.

Alzheimer’s Association –
The Alzheimer’s Association is the national voluntary health agency dedicated to researching the prevention, cure and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders and to providing support and assistance to patients, their families and caregivers. The Alzheimer’s Association is a favorite charity for many Parrot Head Clubs throughout the country.  Jimmy Buffett’s father, J.D. Buffett, died in May, 2003, after suffering from Alzheimer’s.  Supporting this organization is a way for the various phlocks to come together, and to give something special in support of Jimmy Buffett’s family, as well as to our fellow Parrot Heads, which have been touched by this devastating illness. We donate all of the money generated from our silent auction at CocoBowl, our largest annual charity/social event, to the Alzheimer’s Association!  Each year, our club also participates in the annual Memory Walk – held on the Chicago Lakefront during the fall.

Misericordia – The Mission of Misericordia/Heart of Mercy is to support individuals with developmental disabilities in maximizing their level of independence and self-determination within an environment that fosters spirituality, dignity, respect and enhancement of quality of life.  They promote development of natural family and community support, community awareness, education and advocacy.

Beginning in 2001, we have participated in the annual Candy Days fundraising event.  On the designated weekend, our club members, dressed in parrot head finery, walk in our intersection to collect money from passing motorists, and distribute JB’s Candy.

We have adopted the corner of Butterfield Road at Finley Road in Downers Grove, IL.

Northern Illinois Food Bank –  1 out of 12 people in Northern Illinois live with hunger everyday.  Northern Illinois Food Bank, an affiliate member of America’s Second Harvest nationwide network of Food Banks and Food Rescue Organizations, serves a twelve county area from a main warehouse in St. Charles and a branch location in Park City, Illinois.  Their mission is to create a hunger-free Northern Illinois.  We hold food drives twice a year at designated monthly meetings.  All of this food is donated to the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

Brookfield Zoo Annual Christmas Tree Trim –
In preparation for the festive light displays being planned, nearly 600 local community groups and corporations from the Chicagoland area, including the Chicago Parrot Head Club will be decorating trees on the zoo’s malls and around Roosevelt Fountain during the zoo’s annual Tree Trim.  Brookfield Zoo’s Tree Trim has become a tradition for a variety of organizations, including scout troops, schools, churches, libraries, and clubs as well as individual families. Community Tree Trim participants receive a fully LED-lit tree, 20 complimentary general admission passes and five parking passes good on Tree Trim days only, and a sign featuring the town and the names of those who donated and decorated the tree.
