Adopt-A-Highway

Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) is a community involvement program that brings citizen volunteers into partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation to keep our roadside clean.  The program also educates and encourages people to stop littering.  In addition, through the cleanup efforts, visitors and tourists have a better first impression of our state.

Our adopted stretch of highway is 22nd Street in Oak Brook, Illinois between Route 83/Kingery Highway and Butterfield Road.  We get together four times a year to make our highway beautiful.  Visit Their Website

Alzheimer’s Association

The Alzheimer’s Association is the national voluntary health agency dedicated to researching the prevention, cure and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders and to providing support and assistance to patients, their families and caregivers.

The Alzheimer’s Association is a favorite charity for many Parrot Head Clubs throughout the country.  Jimmy Buffett’s father, J.D. Buffett, died in May, 2003, after suffering from Alzheimer’s.  Supporting this organization is a way for the various phlocks to come together, and to give something special in support of Jimmy Buffett’s family, as well as to our fellow Parrot Heads, which have been touched by this devastating illness.

We donate all of the money generated from our silent auction at CocoBowl, our largest annual charity/social event, to the Alzheimer’s Association!  Each year, our club also participates in the annual Memory Walk – held on the Chicago Lakefront during the fall.  Visit Their Website

Misericordia

The Mission of Misericordia/Heart of Mercy is to support individuals with developmental disabilities in maximizing their level of independence and self-determination within an environment that fosters spirituality, dignity, respect and enhancement of quality of life.  They promote development of natural family and community support, community awareness, education and advocacy.

Beginning in 2001, we have participated in the annual Candy Days fundraising event.  On the designated weekend, our club members, dressed in parrot head finery, walk in our intersection to collect money from passing motorists, and distribute JB’s Candy.

We have adopted the corner of Butterfield Road at Finley Road in Downers Grove, IL.  Visit Their Website
